In 2009, Meco Corporation is celebrating a half-century , of bringing family and friends together and we begin to realize the world has changed in so many ways since 1959 when we were known as Metals Engineering Company.

The Begining 1959

In the early years, we manufactured everything from television chassis’s for Magnavox to metal Fishing Reel components for Shakespeare. And then in 1966 at our Greeneville Tennessee plant, we ran the first production run of steel folding chairs and tables setting the foundation for one of our primary business sectors, folding furniture. By 1968 with folding furniture going strong, we established another one of our primary business units, as the first Meco outdoor barbeque grills rolled off our Tennessee assembly lines.

In 1996 Meco’s heritage passed from Robert Austin, Sr. to his son Robert Austin, Jr. and through his guidance we’ve been able to deliver more than 20-million barbeque grills and over 131-million folding chairs and tables. And we’re still going strong.

We made it to fifty. We transitioned through the hippie revolution, made it past the internet bubble bursting, and now are working our way through the global economics of today…still family owned and still family oriented.

To all the retailers who have relied on us, and to the millions of individuals who have purchased our products over the past fifty years, we thank you.

As for the next fifty years, we look forward to helping you, helping your customers, and helping your friends and families come together.
